The Retreat at Sheppard Pratt Introduces Ruxton House

Baltimore, Maryland (PRWEB) May 17, 2012

The Retreat, a premiere, self-funded psychiatric setting operated by the nationally renowned Sheppard Pratt Health System, announces the inauguration of Ruxton House, a licensed group home that will administer continual patient treatment in a transitional setting.

The Ruxton House was designed as a transitional care option for individuals who no longer require the structure inherent in The Retreat’s residential program, but wish to continue receiving ongoing care and treatment. The Ruxton House allows former Retreat patients to receive ongoing therapy in a group home setting, with the aid of an on-site 24-hour support staff.

The Ruxton House is a short commute from the Sheppard Pratt grounds, situated in a small neighborhood setting convenient to shops, churches, and a gourmet grocery store. The Ruxton House program includes two daily therapy sessions Monday-Friday, as well as provides community resources for all residents.

Residents at Ruxton House are encouraged to take an active role in self-care, and are responsible for planning daily meals, taking medications autonomously, and participating in chores that guide residents towards independent living.

The Ruxton House places a strong focus on rehabilitation, and strives to guide former Retreat residents towards healthy, independent community living. The Ruxton House offers accommodations at varying price points, allowing all residents to take advantage of the therapeutic settings. Through transitional programming, the Ruxton House hopes to accommodate needs of patients requiring additional support and care as they progress towards returning independently to the community.

Recent Studies Show MRI Utilization Can Lead to Better Clinical Outcome

Recent Studies Show MRI Utilization Can Lead to Better Clinical Outcome

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) May 17, 2012

Healthcare cost increases have led providers and payers to scrutinize the use of certain clinical services. As a result, a lot of focus is being placed on proper utilization of diagnostic imaging. Many cite inappropriate ordering, self referral and defensive medicine as contributors to these cost increases. However, the clinician treating and seeing patients often finds it a necessity to seek additional insight in order to provide top level care through diagnostic testing that some have deemed to be excessive. We at Foundation Radiology Group actively monitor utilization of services, but ultimately defer to what is going to provide the best patient outcome.

In a recent presentation at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons(AAOS) Annual Conference in March 2012, Dr. S. Patel announced some interesting findings regarding the effectiveness of ordering a knee MRI. The presentation titled “Value of Knee Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the Diagnosis and Management of Knee Disorders” disclosed that MRI frequently changes clinical diagnosis and patient management while improving diagnostic confidence, even when a clinical evaluation is performed by a highly specialized physician. This was most noticeable in the presence of lateral joint line pain and/or tenderness.

The purpose of this study was to determine how frequently the outcome of a MRI of the knee changes clinical diagnosis and management of a patient. The study also sought to prove whether certain characteristics of a patient or ordering physician can affect how knee MRI impacts diagnostic confidence and accuracy.

The study was conducted by three orthopedic surgeons and three sports medicine physicians from a single multispecialty practice who completed surveys on patients that received a knee MRI between June 2010 and January 2011. The pre-MRI survey recorded clinical history, symptoms, physical exam findings, diagnosis with confidence level and planned management. The post-MRI survey recorded diagnosis with confidence level and planned management.

Results showed that MRI changed the primary diagnosis in 29.3% of cases and patient management in 25.3% of cases. MRI changed management in 34.6% (18/52) of cases where a non-surgical management was planned, usually to either surgery or referral to an orthopedic surgeon in 94% of cases (17/18). MRI averted the need for surgery in 13.6% (three/22) of cases and changed the type of surgery in 12.5% (three/24) of cases.

To ensure the most accurate diagnosis for the patient, Foundation Radiology Group also relies on a proactive quality program for clinical assurance and issue review called SAFR (Strategically Aligned Foundation Radiology Quality Review). The program features benchmark imaging read accuracy rates over the national average – 99.6% vs. 96%. It is this type of diagnostic analysis that can help the physician community be confident that he/she ordered the right exam for the patient. Employing such an approach can actually prevent costly surgical procedures or more expensive treatment.

With outcomes based research we can better manage patient care to maximize exam utilization rather than being subject to system wide reimbursement cuts and excessive management of radiology benefits. This type of research approach along with an emphasis on sub-specialty reading, like we perform at Foundation Radiology Group, can help grow and maximize the care provided in orthopedics as well as other service lines. This ensures the highest standards for patient care.

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) May 17, 2012

No stranger to dancing for a good cause, Ballroom Dance Clubs of Atlanta’s talented crew of professional dancers and instructors are reprising their role in this year’s June 2nd Dancing Stars of Atlanta to help raise money for Alzheimer’s support and research. Partnering with the Metro Atlanta Region of the Alzheimer’s Association Georgia Chapter, Ballroom Dance Club’s instructors hope to bring awareness to a disease that affects over 5 million Americans and 200,000 Georgians.

The annual event features prominent members of Atlanta society along with professional ballroom dance instructors. Formatted similarly to the popular television hit, “Dancing with the Stars,” the fundraiser involves an instructor teaching a novice dancer for a short time before the competition. Ballroom Dance Clubs’ professional dancers—Sean Emad and Michelle Rigo from the Atlanta dance studio and Michelle Grady and Joshua Ingram from the Duluth, GA studio—are participating with their local celebrity partners.

A yearly participant in the Alzheimer’s fundraiser, last year Ballroom Dance Clubs of Atlanta helped bring in almost 0,000, with their celebrity partners. The dance organization also dedicated their October 2011 Motown showcase to families whose lives were upheaved by tornadoes that ripped through the Southeast last year with all funds donated to the Salvation Army. Individually, the Ballroom Dance Clubs instructors also contribute to local arts organizations and charities in their spare time.

Participants of the Dancing Stars of Atlanta are judged by a panel including Emmy-award winning journalist Kimberly Kennedy and Channel 2 news anchor John Bachman. Held at the Loews Hotel in downtown Metro Atlanta, community supporters can donate and purchase a ticket to vote for their favorite dancer in the June 2nd, 2012 event by visiting the Dancing Stars of Atlanta website.

About Ballroom Dance Clubs of Atlanta:

New Xulon Book Informs Audience That Miracles Are Possible

Maitland, FL (PRWEB) May 16, 2012

Charles M. Wynn’s new book, Developing Faith For Miracles (.99, paperback, 978-1-61996-669-7; .99, hardcover, 978-1-61996-670-3; .49, e-book, 978-1-61996-671-0) gives readers understanding on the power of healing. This book provides the tools by which the reader’s faith can grow to receive a miracle according to God’s Word. The author encourages proactive faith, rather than passive, in order to receive the healing that God promises.

The Word is eternal, inerrant, and unchanging, but our mortal flesh is temporal. When we speak the unchanging Word of God into our temporal condition, God by the power of His living Word brings life and health and well-being.”

He possesses an all Christian staff in his law office and each appointment has the potential of being a ‘Divine appointment’. U.S. Preventive Medicine

U.S. Preventive Medicine® Health & Fitness App to Integrate with Withings WiFi Body Scale

Jacksonville, FL and Dallas, TX (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

U.S. Preventive Medicine, Inc., the leader in preventive medicine, today announced that Macaw™ from The Prevention Plan™, its mobile health and fitness app, is now integrated with the Withings WiFi Body Scale. This convergence of technology will provide users with a revolutionary way to manage their health.

Macaw is a full-feature app that assesses an individual’s health risks and will serve as a hub to track health metrics and activity, as well as integrate information from other health and fitness apps, lab results and wireless devices. Using this wireless technology, the Withings scale will seamlessly integrate with the Macaw app.

The Withings WiFi Body Scale is the world’s first WiFi-connected personal weight scale, which automatically records the user’s body weight, lean and fat mass, and calculated body mass index (BMI) and automatically integrates that data with Macaw. Users of the mobile app will have a complete picture of their health, be able to track fluctuations in in the scale measurements over time, and track healthy activities and diet that correspond to those weight fluctuations.

For members of U.S. Preventive Medicine’s The Prevention Plan, Macaw will also integrate this data between the mobile app and the Plan’s online health management platform using technology and services provided by Qualcomm Life, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. Macaw can be downloaded for free on the iPhone and Android devices.

“U.S. Preventive Medicine plans to integrate Macaw with dozens of health devices, monitors and mobile apps in the coming months,” said Christopher Fey, founder, CEO and chairman of U.S. Preventive Medicine. “By combining the paradigm shift of technology and the clinical discipline of preventive medicine, we hope to transform the way people think about, engage in and manage their health.”

“We developed our WiFi Scale knowing that monitoring your weight on a daily basis is the key to reaching and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Withings Co-Founder Cedric Hutchings. “By partnering with U.S Preventive Medicine, our scale makes the tracking of weight for their users easy in an effort to support their global initiative in preventive health.”

About Macaw™

Unlike other available health and fitness apps, Macaw is based on the clinical science of preventive medicine and is universally designed for people who exercise regularly as well as those who are novices when it comes to physical activity. By leveraging Qualcomm Life’s expertise in wireless technology, Macaw has been able to transform a smartphone into the ultimate personal health monitor, connecting an individual’s health apps and wireless devices for tracking weight, fitness, overall activity and biometrics – including pedometers, glucose meters, activity armbands, scales, labs, sleep managers, mobile weight loss apps and blood pressure cuffs – into a single app for complete tracking. Macaw currently allows integration with the Fitlinxx Actiped+ all-day activity monitor, and WorkSmart Labs’ weight loss and fitness app Noom Weight Loss and Withings WiFi Body Scale. Macaw users are able to track their physical activity, nutrition, progress and health knowledge while engaging in games that unlock prizes.

Macaw is available for download on the iPhone App Store and Android Market. You can also stay up-to-date by following Macaw on Facebook (Facebook.com/ThePreventionPlan), Twitter (@MacawApp) and YouTube (YouTube.com/MacawApp). View the video at http://www.youtube.com/macawapp.

Tyco Thermal Controls Presented with Safety Recognition Award for Motiva Crude Expansion Project

Tyco Thermal Controls Presented with Safety Recognition Award for Motiva Crude Expansion Project

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

Tyco Thermal Controls’ Tracer Turnkey Solutions Team was recently presented with a Safety Recognition Award for its work on the Motiva Crude Expansion Project (CEP) in Port Arthur, Texas. Premier experts in the engineering design, construction, and maintenance of heat-tracing solutions, the team exceeded one million work hours without a recordable injury and two million hours without a lost time injury at the Port Arthur Texas Refinery – a stellar safety achievement.

Tyco’s focus on safety has been a vital factor in the success of the expansion project. With a peak workforce of approximately 100 staff members and more than 1,500 employees working to make Motiva’s Port Arthur Texas Refinery one of the world’s largest refining complexes, Tyco has exceeded performance and productivity expectations while adhering to rigorous safety standards.

“The safety of our employees and those involved with our projects is a top commitment for Tyco, so we are very proud to be presented with this important award,” said Dave Megna, president of Tracer division, Tyco Thermal Controls. “With a goal of achieving zero incidents worldwide through our Environmental, Health and Safety program, we expect to continue being an industry leader in preserving the safety of people, property and environment.”

In addition to significant emphasis on safety throughout the expansion project, Tyco has also adapted to provide optimized cost-saving strategies for the refinery’s heat management system. Tyco’s superior technology solutions have reduced the overall electrical load at the Motiva’s Port Arthur Texas Refinery by five megawatts – equivalent to the amount of energy needed to power a large neighborhood.

Tyco Thermal Controls began working on the Motiva CEP in 2006, when the Tracer Turnkey Solutions Team was awarded the contract for front end engineering and estimate development. The team later secured full engineering procurement and construction contracts for the project’s electric tracing and thermal insulation. As the project nears completion, the team continues to focus on safety of its employees engaged in the facility start up.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Exhibiting at WorldatWork’s Total Rewards 2012 Conference and Exhibition

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) will be among the exhibitors at WorldatWork’s Total Rewards 2012 Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. The exhibit will be held May 21-23 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. Staff will be on hand in Booth 828 to explain the data that BLS produces and demonstrate how that data can be used by Human Resource professionals.

Most of the data to be featured come from the National Compensation Survey (NCS) and the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program. The NCS produces data on employment cost trends and the incidence, provisions, and cost of employer provided benefits. The OES provides data on employment and occupational wages. All BLS data are free of charge and available online.

As part of the exhibit, BLS staff will show users how to access data online from the BLS website. Survey respondents—those invaluable Human Resource professionals that provide the data for BLS surveys—are encouraged to stop by the booth to discuss the importance and process of reporting data to BLS. Karen Ransom, Regional Economist in BLS’s Southeast Regional Office, noted: “meeting data users from the Human Resources profession face-to-face is a great way for us to demonstrate the data we produce as well as learn from the experts what their data needs are.”

All visitors to the booth will receive a copy of “Zooming in on Compensation Data – A guide to BLS data for Human Resources Professionals”. Those not attending the conference can request a copy of this booklet by sending an email request to HRGuide {at} bls {dot} gov.

About the Bureau of Labor Statistics

The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor is the principal federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy. Its mission is to collect, analyze, and disseminate essential economic information to support public and private decision-making. As an independent statistical agency, BLS serves its diverse user communities by providing products and services that are objective, timely, accurate, and relevant.

About the BLS Information Offices

BLS has eight regional information offices, located in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. BLS staff from these offices are available to assist data users in finding and understanding the data they need. The Information Offices may be contacted via email, telephone, or in person.

About the National Compensation Survey

The National Compensation Survey is an on-going comprehensive employer-based survey of approximately 11,000 establishments conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. NCS is an umbrella program that produces data on several topics including benefits, wages, and compensation cost trends. One of its outputs—the Employment Cost Index (ECI) — is a principal federal economic indicator. The ECI measures the percent change in the cost of wages and benefits. Another output is the Employer Costs for Employee Compensation (ECEC). The ECEC provides costs for wages and individual benefits on a cost per hour worked basis. In addition to the reports and websites mentioned in this release, the Compensation and Working Conditions Online Journal contains short articles on various compensation topics including health and retirement benefits.

About the Occupational Employment Statistics Program

The Occupational Employment Statistics program is an on-going, comprehensive employer-based survey of approximately 1.2 million establishments collected over a 3-year period. The OES survey is a Federal-State cooperative program between BLS and State Workforce Agencies (SWAs). BLS provides the procedures and technical support, draws the sample, and produces the survey materials, while the SWAs collect the data. OES provides employment and wage estimates for over 800 occupations by State, Metropolitan and Nonmetropolitan Area, as well as by detailed industry and ownership (private industry, local government, state government, and federal government) at the National level.
